National Key Account Manager - Modern Trade

Key Responsibilities
Business Growth & Account Management
• Drive sales growth across national and regional Modern Trade accounts.
• Own the business relationship with key retail partners such as Reliance, DMart, More, Spencer’s, Star Bazaar, Nature’s
Basket, etc.
• Develop and execute annual business plans / joint business plans (JBP) with key accounts.
• Identify growth opportunities through assortment expansion, promotions, visibility, and new store onboarding.
Sales Planning & Execution
• Deliver sales KPIs including monthly billing, secondary sales, range selling, visibility, and off-take growth.
• Ensure achievement of account-wise revenue, volume, and profitability targets.
• Track sales performance and drive corrective actions to close gaps.
Modern Trade Operations & Visibility
• Ensure strong in-store execution across key accounts including:
o Product listings
o Shelf placement
o Secondary visibility
o Promotions and activations
o New product launches
• Work closely with merchandising / field teams to ensure execution excellence in stores.
Promotions, Activations & Trade Marketing
• Plan and execute BTL activations, promotions, sampling, and in-store campaigns in collaboration with internal teams.
• Evaluate promotion effectiveness and optimize spends for better ROI.
• Support seasonal and category-led campaigns across accounts.
Commercials & Business Hygiene
• Lead commercial negotiations with key accounts including:
o Margins
o Listing fees
o Trade spends
o Promotion budgets
o Payment terms
• Ensure smooth business hygiene across:
o Claims submission and closure
o Distributor alignment
o Outstanding collections / overdue management
o Account reconciliation
o Trade scheme execution
Cross-Functional Stakeholder Management
• Coordinate with internal teams including:
o Supply Chain
o Finance
o Marketing
o Trade Marketing
o Operations
• Ensure timely execution of launches, stock availability, promotions, and account deliverables.
Market Intelligence & Reporting
• Monitor competition, category trends, pricing, promotions, and market opportunities.
• Share regular account performance updates, market feedback, and actionable insights with leadership.
• Use data to drive strategic decisions and improve account productivity.
Ideal Candidate
• Strong communication and negotiation skills
• Good commercial and analytical understanding
• Strong relationship management and stakeholder handling ability
• High ownership with an execution-focused mindset
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, growth-stage environment
• Sound understanding of the Modern Trade ecosystem and retail dynamics
Preferred Experience
• 5–8+ years of sales experience in FMCG / Food industry
• Mandatory experience in Modern Trade / Key Accounts
• Experience handling national or large regional key accounts
• Prior experience in health food / packaged food / nutrition / snacking categories is a plus
• Based in or willing to relocate to Bangalore
